Mark Zuckerberg has made a splash in his personal training programme with two of the biggest stars of UFC, by trying his hand at wakeboarding. The Meta boss has been benefitting from the expert tutelage of MMA fighters Israel Adesanya and Alex Volkanovski this week, as he looks to shape himself up for a possible high-profile cage fight with Twitter boss Elon Musk.
On Tuesday, Zuckerberg posted topless photos of himself on Instagram alongside both Adesanya and Volkanovski as the pair put the Facebook founder through his paces.
But a day later, Adesanya shared a video showing the trio relaxing on a lake with Zuckerberg showing off his sills on a wakeboard while the UFC pair sun themselves on the back of a boat.
Two-time UFC middleweight champion Adesanya later posted photos of himself training with Zuckerberg with the caption: “We both have South Africans to deal with.”
Adesanya’s comment refers to his expected forthcoming fight against undefeated challenger Dricus Du Plessis, while Zuckerberg could find himself in the ring with Tesla chief Musk.
Zuckerberg is a huge fan of MMA and is now close friends with Australian Volkanovski. Speaking about their friendship before a fight last year, the 34-year-old said (as per the Mail): “Yeah, he’s a mate. I knew well before he made the appearance at the UFC that he’s a big fan. He loves the sport. I do consider him my mate. Again, he’s a cool dude, we get along.”
But while Zuckerberg buddies up with two of the baddest men on the planet, his potential cage fight opponent is not short of offers either. A number of high-profile mixed martial arts fighters have offered their services to South African Musk, including Jorge Masvidal, Dominick Cruz and Georges St-Pierre.
No official date has been set for the prospective duel between the two tech billionaires, but after a recent training session with St-Pierre, Musk, 52, admitted that he needed “a lot more training”.
St-Pierre posted a photo on Twitter of himself with Musk, podcaster and combat guru Lex Fridman and martial arts instructor John Danaher with the caption: “Great training session with 3 men that I really admire. Combined IQ in this photo is 1000. Not including me,” to which Musk replied: “It was an honour.”
UFC boss Dana White hopes to promote the hotly-anticipated fight between Zuckerberg and Musk, describing it as “the biggest fight ever in the history of the world”.
