Atalanta are reportedly considering a swap deal proposal from Paris Saint-Germain for Manchester United target Rasmus Hojlund. The Red Devils remain the frontrunners to land the young Dane but the French giants are now at the table and are threatening to scupper Erik ten Hag’s transfer plans.

United have already wrapped up an agreement on personal terms with the player and his agents but that hasn’t stopped PSG from launching an assault for one of Europe’s hottest talents.

According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, PSG have offered Atalanta the chance to sign former Newcastle target Hugo Ekitike as part of a deal for Hojlund.

The 21-year-old Frenchman is one of Atalanta’s top striker targets alongside Almeria’s El Bilal Toure which could put United on the backfoot if they do not speed up negotiations quickly.

Initial talks have been held with Atalanta over a swoop for the 20-year-old striker who has quickly worked his way towards the top of Ten Hag’s summer wish-list.

But crucially, United are yet to submit a formal offer and now PSG are probing as they seek to add the former Sturm Graz talent to their Ligue 1-winning squad.

United are expected to launch an opening bid in the coming days after finally wrapping up the signing of Andre Onana from Inter Milan.

They initially floated the idea of including several stars as part of a package but Atalanta would ideally prefer a big-money transfer fee.

That stance could effectively help United following PSG’s proposal but as mentioned, Ekitike is a player held in high regard by the Italians.

Despite denying reports he’d held a video call with United boss Ten Hag, Hojlund wasn’t afraid to speak his mind when discussing links to Old Trafford last month while away on international duty with Denmark.

He said: “It is a huge club, so I must have done something right if it’s rumoured they want me. We have to see what happens.

“From what we all hear, I imagine a lot could happen to quite a few strikers this summer, as many clubs are looking for a Number 9.

“Something will definitely happen there, and then we’ll have to wait and see if I am included in it.

“I am very happy to be with Atalanta and we have qualified for Europe, so now we have to wait and see.”

Atalanta are expected to command at least £60m for Hojlund as they are reluctant to lose him this summer.

The centre-forward scored nine goals in Serie A last season and the Italian club believe the player would benefit from at least one more season in Italy.

Juventus have also been monitoring Hojlund’s future in case they are able to find a buyer for Dusan Vlahovic.
