Manchester United have agreed a £15million deal with Nottingham Forest for the permanent sale of Anthony Elanga. The Swedish international winger is set to undergo a medical at the City Ground this weekend ahead of finalising the move as he prepares to end his nine-year spell at Old Trafford having broken into the first team back in 2021.

Elanga has attracted strong interest from Everton and was also a name under discussion in Germany as he prepares to embark on a new chapter in the Premier League.

The 21-year-old has opted to reject a move to Goodison Park and should be unveiled as a new Forest player in the coming days, should all go to plan.

The sale is a boost for United, who are looking to raise cash through player sales to bolster Erik ten Hag’s spending power this summer following the signings of Mason Mount and Andre Onana.

United have struggled to find buyers for Elanga in recent transfer windows after receiving plenty of loan interest in the winger.

It wasn’t too long ago that he was being tipped for a huge future at Old Trafford after breaking into Ralf Rangnick’s starting XI, netting a precious late equaliser in the Champions League knockout stages away to Atletico Madrid in February 2022.

Around that time, United interim boss Rangnick had described Elanga as a “role model” for the club’s academy players with first-team aspirations.

The German said: “He is playing as though it is a dream come true, it is a joy and fun to watch him play, I wish a few other players would take him as an example and as a role model. Football is an important sport, even more so for the supporters, and it is a ball game. This is what I wish us to do, especially in the second leg.”

Elanga has since lost his way at United under Ten Hag and managed just 16 appearances in the Premier League last season under Ten Hag, paving the way for an exit.

Forest are also hopeful of agreeing the signing of United goalkeeper Dean Henderson following his loan spell with the club last season.

Henderson’s future has been impacted by United’s pursuit of new signing Onana and he has since travelled to the United States with the club for their pre-season tour.

Yet United are expected to finalise a deal in the coming weeks and they will command a fee upwards of £20m for the England international.

The £4m sale of Alex Telles to Al-Nassr has gone quite but could yet be revived in the coming days.

Fred is another player that can leave United this summer but so far United have only rejected one proposal from Galatasaray which was way short of their valuation.

Fulham have also shown interest but they’re not willing to pay the £20m that United have quoted during initial dialogue.

United are set to submit a formal bid for Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund in the near future but they will have to pay big money to sign the 20-year-old Dane.

Hojlund has already agreed personal terms with the Red Devils as he patiently awaits the two clubs to finalise a fee.
