Arsenal are set to face Manchester United on Saturday in one of the most eagerly awaited pre-season friendlies this summer. The two clubs head into the match on the back of victories and a win over their rivals heading into the 2023/24 campaign is certain to be a major morale booster.

United have already played twice this summer, beating Leeds 2-0 with a squad largely made up of academy graduates. Jadon Sancho led the line for Erik ten Hag’s side, with summer signing Mason Mount also deployed as a No 10 behind his international team-mate.

A sprinkling of more experienced stars then featured against Lyon earlier this week in their 1-0 win at the Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh, with Donny van de Beek scoring the all-important goal. Arsenal have also been in tremendous form following their impressive Premier League campaign, recently beating the MLS All-Stars 5-0 on Thursday.

Mikel Arteta fielded a strong side against his American opponents on the night and was rewarded for his faith in his proven stars, and those familiar faces are likely to feature against United too. Here’s all you need to know about the clash…

With the match set to be played at the MetLife Stadium in New York on Saturday, it’s a late kick-off for UK supporters. The game is scheduled for 5pm in the USA, which means it will be 10pm in the UK when the friendly gets underway.

Which new signings could feature?

Arsenal new signings Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber have all made their debuts for the club this summer, and the trio are expected to feature against United. Arteta’s recruits all came on late in the second half against the MLS All-Stars, which could indicate that they are in line to start against the Red Devils.

Mount is also set to feature again for United, though all eyes will be on whether Andre Onana features between the sticks. The Cameroon international has jetted out to America to link up with his new teammates following his move from Inter Milan, though it remains to be seen whether it is too early for him to be thrown straight into Ten Hag’s side.
